Default Paper umbrella wreath, Ick! Ick! Ick!

I think this is so cute. I have ordered the umbrellas, and am going to try this over the weekend.

I have no idea why the url is designating this as Christmas! I also have not one single idea as to what in the world I am going to do with it once made, but I can guarantee making it will be interesting.

I have several foam wreath forms in my stash that I got for a dollar each a few years ago. So, the total cost is going to be about seven dollars.

Here's a hint. I ordered the umbrellas from Oriental Trading. They are fine. I was able to get free shipping by looking for a coupon, so the whole thing came to five dollars and a bit of change.

However, they are stinkers to poke into the wreath! I had my Himself cut a wire coathanger for me, and then wrapped masking tape around a cloth ball I made for one end so the wire wouldn't poke the palm of my hand. Then I could easily stick the other end in the styrofoam. Much better to then stick in the wooden umbrellas. Didn't break a one after that.

I will tell you this. Never will I make another one. What a pain! Have it gussied up and ready to sell. It is as cute as can be, but took hours and hours, and that was just a pain at the end. I think it might be a bit easier using a grapevine wreath, but I didn't have one.

Kicking that puppy to the curb this morning. It is sagging! All the umbrellas that are open part way are closing. To save it, I would need to glue them at the point I wish them to be. No thank you! I'd have to double the price to make up for my time, and I am not going to do that. So, out come the umbrellas and I will keep the wreath. Found some crazy tie-dye felt at a friend's fabric shop and will try a bubble wreath out of that, and then glue on some felt snowflakes. Fast and cute, I hope!

ETA: I did make sure the little stoppers were up next to the base. Did not hold.

I noticed that some in the picture are not open fully. It's a shame it was such a PITA...it's really cute.

I loved this in the photos. So cute for summer! Now...back to real life. I made one and it was just flat ugly. I don't know how to explain it, really. I think I tried too carefully to space the colors evenly and make sure it was perfect, and it just looks too "done". I hung it on the front door for a few days, then put it out for the trash man.

I've seen those on a couple of blogs. While I didn't have a desire to try to make one myself, I did think they were cute.
