Default Diet before a Colonoscopy.

What did you have to drink that did taste decent for that prep test?

The box of Lipton Chicken noodle soup is good and I just wondered if you could just drink the broth. Maybe strain it first.

No red, orange or purple. Just about all that's left is lemon or lime.

You can have coffee, tea, bouillon, popsicles, soda pop, gatorade and I don't see how they call this a CLEAR liquid diet.

Let me think...I had bouillon, tea, and 7-up.

Oh, also Propel water. My doctor recommended that. I prefer that over gatorade.

From my own experience, I was able to have chicken stock. Really, the choices are so limited and nothing is gonna taste very good.

I took a can of chicken noodle soup, drained the noodles, and drank the heated up broth. Which prep kit are you using?Mine had a lemon flavor which I mixed with ginger ale and was actually tasty.

I just wanted to take something with my medicines and thought it might help me from getting sick at my stomach.

4 Dulcolax Tablets-- 1 (238 grams) of Miralax mixed with sprite or gatorade.

I didn't take pills. Good luck with the procedure. Very easy once you are "cleaned out". I also ate jello.

I eat nothing at all that day. Just drink liquids such as water, gatorade the G2 kind and the only kind I can stand. I don't like black coffee so thats out. I don't do broth of any kind so none of that.

I can't handle sprite, gingerale *and I loved gingerale* but the stuff they make you drink has so much of the same taste that and lemon/lime flavored stuff turns my tummy.

I have meds to take to keep the nausea down and they are what helped the most.

Prayers and good luck, Salsa...If you're about to have to go though one of these.

Yeah, no opaque liquids like milk. It's not that bad.

Jake, I have to start the prep tomorrow and the test is Wednesday morning. I just want to get everything I need today or first thing in the morning.

I drank chicken broth with a dash of worcestershire sauce in it. Ice tea, and that was about it.

Dang! I forgot about those. I don't like them but my sister said her doctor said they would work for nausea whilst you drank the stuff and had your liquids. For every glass of liquids you drink have a banana popcicle after. Sis said they work great for her.

Thanks C&B for that reminder.

My hubs had a colonoscopy last year.

Just one word of advice, and be forewarned!....

Whatever you eat will come back out. Don't panic when you go to the bathroom and you see remnants of your lime jello. Made my hubs do a double take. LOL

I drank gingerale and ate a bit of lime jello, but to tell you the truth I didn't have much of an appetite because my gastro doc prescribed 2 bottles of Fleet..

I mixed it with Sierra Mist and haven't been able to drink Sierra Mist since!!

Thank God they've switched to Miralax mixed with Gatorade now!

Good luck with your colonoscopy...and have a pleasant journey with the 'happy juice' they give ya'!

a clear diet is anything you can see through. so jello, broth, soda are all basically see through. but in your case, i think i would not eat anything and just go hungry until after.

Cool Beans, that's what confused me. It had black coffee and tea on the list of things you could have and they aren't clear.

I have no diet advice per se....just had to comment that every time my eyes skim over this topic, I think I'm seeing "Die before a colonoscopy" and have to blink twice....

Pay no attention to me, lmao.

In regards to a broth--I ordered some chinese soup (chicken broth based) and only drank the broth.

other than than I think I ate jello. I didn't even know I could of had popsicles..yum

I had to take the ducolax and some clear saline like stuff (salty)...I mixed it with 7 up but chased it with ice cold water. I cold water really helped with the saltly taste.

Drinking that stuff wasn't that bad.

Just as a precaution though, have some either soothing wipes or cream to help with a sore booty.

Apple Sharon, good luck with yours. I'll be thinking of you.

I wasn't scared to have it done, but I am now. I've never had one before and I'm 65. It isn't the procedure that I'm scared of either.

Make your own chicken broth. Just buy a package of whatever piece of chicken you like - breasts or thighs, cover with a lot of water and season however you like. (I put carrots, celery & onion w/s&P in mine & a little parsley). Strain it when chicken is done.

Believe me, IT WILL TASTE GREAT! And you will need it to taste great! LOL It was sooooo good, everytime I felt hungry, I would drink a little cup of it. It will "hold you up" through your day.

And as a bonus, you can use the meat to make chicken salad or a casserole the day after your procedure.

I'll be thinking of you Weds. - the test itself is NOT bad & the stuff they use to put you to sleep with is much improved. You are awake really quickly afterwards & alert. You might need a nap later in the day, but you'll have more energy than you think.

The worst part is the prep!

What time are you going to start your prep? I think I started mine around 1:30pm...I was fine for bedtime--didn't have to get up or anything.

Don't be scared about the prep. It wasn't that bad for me except the burning booty from going so much.

I noticed the I felt REALLY good once everything was done and over with. I felt healthy, energized...I felt it was from just getting so internally cleaned out. I had even asked the doctor if that cleanse would be safe to do on it's own.

Let us know how you feel a day or two after, I'm curious to see if it was just me or what.

I'll start the prep around two. I need to be there at 7:30 and the colonoscopy is at 8:30. I hope I get out of the bathroom in time to go for my appointment. I'm thinking about taking my DVD player in the bathroom and staying there all afternoon. LOL

It "goes" really fast....once it starts. I drank tea, coffee (black) water and ginger ale. The test is a piece of cake. I was not energized afterward though..just gassy. I got home in the afternoon and slept ALL day. Some of the best sleep I've had.

Too late for this to help you SalsaLady, but it might help others. Best advice I got was from a friend. Her doctor told her to eat lightly the day before the Prep day. That way, there won't be a lot in there to flush out, so cleaning yourself out part won't be so bad. And she was right.

So you'll have a day of eating lightly, then the prep day when you just have the clear liquids, and then the procedure the next day.
