Default How long does it take to get an x-ray result

I took Dd2 to the ped on Thursday for her arm (fell roller skating).

They sent her for an X-ray and told me the would call me by the end of the day or first thing Friday with the results.

Thursday they call to tell me the results are not in, but the first reading (or something like that) it does not appear broke....BUT the radiologist has not read it yet. He will read it, then give the final report.

They said by Friday morning they will have the results.

Friday afternoon I call...and the results are not in yet. They should be back by Monday morning.

I just called...and they are still not in.

The child is still hurting...she still can not move her arm all the way.

They told me they can send her to an orthopeditic surgeon...BUT he will have to wait for the x-rays too.

WTH? how freaking long does it take to get an x-ray.

This is a HOSPIAL! Not like a clinic...but a hospital.

I can sympathize, I'm in pain and waiting since Friday for my CT Scan to be read and the Dr. to call. I've called his office twice already.

They could have done a wet reading. Meaning as soon as X-ray was developed, right there.

I know our hospital does X-rays right to a computer screen these days. I've looked at my own when there was nobody there to read them. Do hospitals still use film for x-rays?

Some do. Private Practices do.

Take her to an Orthopedic Surgeon. Go by the hospital first and pick up the xrays. The stupid hospital I went to once told me my ankle wasn't broken and I walked around on it a week (well actually I hobbled around most of the week) before I took the hospital xray to an Ortho and he took one look at the xray and told me I'd broken my ankle.

Take her to the orthopedic surgeon. He will take his own x-rays and read them right there while you wait. Not having the results since Thursday is ridiculous.

yes some hospitals are still film but most are digital. When we do xrays, if an immediate read is required, once the image is taken we page the radiologist. So before the patient gets back to the doctor that requested the xray the results are in the computer.

I wonder if they misplaced her X-rays and are back tracking trying to find them. That seems a long time to get results to me.

I'd find some other place to go for emergencies.

Update....

They just called me...told me all was fine...no break, no chip, no fracture.

BUT they said she needs to see a orthopedic doctor.

I will call him tomorrow (they are closed now).

They told me the same thing. Make sure you see the Ortho......when mine put the Xray in the viewer even I could see the bone chips in mine.........I'm thinking the ER Doc who originally saw me was blind.

When Shelbie hurt her ankle last May the hospital said it was sprained. That was on a Friday night. When she went to the doctor for her toes he re-xrayed and said it was broken and put her in an air cast. She had her last CT scan last Thursday and goes tomorrow at 5:00 for her results. She walked on a broken ankle for days. That ankle did not heal until Thanksgiving.

Boo Boo... You wouldn't believe how many patients we treat for 'follow ups' from the ER with the diagnosis of a sprain when it's really a fracture!!

Hope she's feeling better soon, Mom!

My daughter and I were in the grocery store today and she picked up a turkey baster and said, "I wonder if we could suck out Shelbie's nose?" We both laughed.
