They look kinda similar.
Michelle's is more poofy, I think she would have looked better in something more fitting, like Nancy's. ![]() ![]() |

Yup. All but the cost. For those, who really know, didn't Michelle Obama's dress cost a fraction of what Nancy Reagan's cost?

I didn't care too much for the dress.....I think if it had been more fitted I would have liked it better. I still think she looked very pretty and I like the color on her. I know the dress has been described as white and it looked white on my TV too.

I was watching last night and I think she changed bracelets.
I saw her first in bangle looking bracelets and then later I thought her in something that looked like diamond tennis bracelets. Did any of y'all notice that or was I just tired? |

I thought I heard last night Nancy's dress cost $65,000. Haven't heard the cost of Michelle's. I know her little girls were dressed in J Crew!

I thought it was pale yellow but found out it was white! I wish I had gotten up and gone into the bedroom to watch instead of watching the TV on the computer!

Again, TxMichelle.....our taste in clothing differs. LOL!!! I loved the dress. I do wish the designer had thought about the long train thingy because she kept having to move it out of the way to keep the Prez from stepping on it. Other than that, loved it.

I prefer Michelle's dress to Mrs. Reagan's but then again it may be because, IMO, Mrs. Reagan was a tad bit too, er, mature for that particular dress. When one reaches a certain age, one should consider covering up just a tad more. Hillary and Laura both chose very well.

I thought I'd heard a figure of far more than $10,000., for Nancy's dress...but that's the figure which googling pulled up...plus, she "borrowed" the dress.
I like Michelle Obama's look, far more, even though the cost was far less ![]() |

My question, what does it matter what it cost? I mean, dang, it was her husband's inauguration ball. Plus, who paid for it, if they did, then what's the big deal? I agree about Hillary's and Laura's dresses. I especially liked the blue one Hillary wore. She looks good in that color. |

I just thought it was truly cool, that Michelle Obama managed to get a great-looking dress, so much cheaper, so many years later. I truly hope we're going to "be nice," today. |

Yup, that's the Hillary dress I was thinking of. The 2nd time around it was more of a champagne color, still very nice but not as much "wow!"
I would have worn a dress like this because even though I'm Michelle's age, I don't like my arms and always want them covered. |

Galliano's (sp?) did it best IMO.
My pref is Nanacy's over Michelle's.

I think Nancy's dress is beautiful, but the arm thing...not so good. The top looks like it didn't fit her very well. Just kinda hangs there.

I didn't think it was very flattering for Michelle, but Nancy looked almost as bad in her off-the-shoulder dress.

I think Nancy's is made w/ Alençon lace and that's soooooooo not cheap. ........unless it comes from Korea and the beading is glued on......progress scares me sometimes..........

I may be in the minority on the day after, but I really liked Michelle's dress. I think the fabric and the style gave it a very youthful feeling which I think was a good thing for last night. Michelle certainly had the arms to wear that dress well too I think.
Peanut posted some really great photos last night. A lot of the pics I've seen today are from a bit of a distance and in weird lighting. I don't care for the dress in those. But seeing the close up of the fabric in better light, it's really pretty to me. Because of being tall and slender, I think we're going to see a lot of fashions on Michelle we may not be used to seeing. I think she's going to break the mold a bit. I say hurrah for that! |

I like Nancy's dress better. Even if she is "older" she has the figure to carry it off. Galliano is never a bad choice. I'll bet she didn't pay full price for it, either.

I like Hillary's dress the best.
I also thought Michele's dress reminded me of a bedspread, and it did not do anything for her. She would have looked beautiful in Nancy's dress. |

Hillary's dress is nice too. I'm not fond of the skin showing under the lace sleeves and top but it has a nice cut and fits well. I'm sure it looked terrific on the dance floor. It's that "just tumbled out of bed" hair that looks bad.

What Hillary dress are you guys referring to? I thought that blue one in post 17 above was from a previous inauguration because it says 1993 on it.

The strap on Michelle's dress looks like an afterthought, not designed in from the beginning. But, Michelle is at an age that her shoulders look fine out in the open. I'm sure that when she looks at the footage of herself waving, she will ditch sleeveless, or start triceps exercises....

Nancy looks quite pale in her dress. I like the dress, but it would look so much nicer on someone around 20 years old. Just because she is thin, it doesn't mean she can pull off a dress like that. Her arms look just....well, too old.
My first thought of Michelle's dress was that it did remind me of a chenille bed spread.......but I think she pulled it off. Something like that would make me look silly, but it did look great on her. I do like Hillary's dress and I think Nancy should have worn something similar. |
