Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

With the nation’s governors in Washington for their annual winter conference, this Sunday’s talk shows host several of the Republicans squabbling over whether to accept any of the $787 billion in economic stimulus funds just signed into law by President Barack Obama.

After squaring off over the stimulus all week, potential Republican presidential primary rivals Govs. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Charlie Crist of Florida will have it out on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

"Fox News Sunday" also features Republican governors, as Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota will discuss the stimulus.

In addition, Fox gets Democratic Govs. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania and Jennifer Granholm of Michigan. And CBS’s “Face the Nation” hosts Pawlenty and another Republican governor, Mitch Daniels of Indiana, along with Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine of New Jersey and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Meanwhile, emerging from an exhausting budget battle, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California sits down with host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week” to offer his take on the nation’s dire economic straits and reflect on his state’s nearly paralyzing budget crisis.

Schwarzenegger also stops by CNN’s “State of the Union,” which also has snagged Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Republican Gov. Haley Barbour of Mississippi and HUD’s Donovan.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) will weigh in on the president’s recently announced mortgage relief plan on Bloomberg’s “Political Capital” with Al Hunt.

And, finally, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” lands Education Secretary Arne Duncan, who’ll be questioned by Libby Quaid of The Associated Press and Michele McNeil of Education Week.

In a thread about global warming Red said this:

This has pretty well summed up how I think about it too.

Tomorrow night on History Channel International there is a show called Life After People. The episode recap says "Visual effects and expert commentary combine to speculate about what Earth would be like if, suddenly, humans were to disappear."

I have no idea if the show will broach global warming etc - but the thought is interesting to me.

Show airs here at 7pm. However, I'm on DishNetwork and have NO idea which feed I get on that station. Check your locals for channel and times.

Sunday talk show tip sheet

With the $410 billion omnibus spending bill hung up in the Senate, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag and key Senate players are on this Sunday’s talk show circuit.

Orszag, the former director of the Congressional Budget Office, headlines two Sunday shows, appearing with House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and with House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) takes on Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) in the wake of the Republicans successful attempt to hem up the omnibus.

Meanwhile, Graham’s good friend, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), makes his case on “Fox News Sunday.” Also appearing are Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and freshman Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), who’s the Fox “Power Player of the Week.”

ABC’s “This Week” also has top budget operators, with Democratic Sens. Claire McCaskill of Missouri and Evan Bayh of Indiana and Republican Sen. Richard Shelby of Alabama and Thomas Donahue, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

On Bloomberg’s “Political Capital,” Senate Foreign Relations Chairman John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) sits down with host Al Hunt to discuss the international challenges facing the Obama administration.

Finally, PhRMA president and CEO Billy Tauzin is on C-SPAN’S “Newsmakers” where he’ll offer pharmaceutical industry’s take on President Barack Obama’s health care summit to The Hill’s Jeffrey Young and Congressional Quarterly’s Drew Armstrong.

Thanks SJR. I'm not normally a GMA watcher. Is there a specific time they tend to air pieces like this? In the first hour? Later?

NL, I couldn't find a specific time. Following was on the GMA website.

Michelle Obama will hold her first interview as first lady with ABC News' Robin Roberts. The interview will air on "Good Morning America" Friday, March 13 at 7 a.m. ET.

Roberts will travel with Michelle Obama Thursday as she embarks on her first official trip to Ft. Bragg, N.C., to meet with military families and servicemen and women.

Roberts will talk with the first lady about life in the White House as well as many of the issues affecting the American people today.

Watch "Good Morning America" Friday, March 13, at 7 a.m. ET for Robin Roberts' interview with first lady Michelle Obama.

Obama has sparked intense public fascination since she first began campaigning for her husband, President Barack Obama.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Vice President Dick Cheney gives his first television interview since leaving office Sunday, with the Obama economic team rounding out the weekend talk shows.

Cheney sits down live with host John King on CNN’s “State of the Union” for what is sure to be a newsy chat. In a POLITICO interview last month, for instance, Cheney warned of a catastrophic terrorist attack ahead and chided President Barack Obama for closing the military prison for international terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Following Cheney on CNN, Rep. Joe Sestak of Pennsylvania offers a Democratic view.

Later, Lawrence Summers, director of the president’s National Economic Council, gets top billing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and on ABC’s “This Week.”

ABC host George Stephanopoulos also brings in Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). And CBS host Bob Schieffer follows Summers with New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.

Christina Romer, chairwoman of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, headlines NBC’s “Meet the Press,” with House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia offering a Republican view.

On “Fox News Sunday,” Obama economic adviser Austan Goolsbee appears along with Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Institutions Committee.

And on Bloomberg TV, former Sen. Bill Bradley (D-N.J.) sits down with host Al Hunt on “Political Capital” to offer his take on the worldwide financial crisis.

President Obama To Appear On "60 Minutes" Sunday

President Obama will appear on "60 Minutes" this Sunday for an interview with Steve Kroft, the Washington Post's Howard Kurtz reports.

Kroft was the first interviewer Obama spoke to following his November election victory.

Read about and watch highlights from that interview here.

Before appearing on "60 Minutes," Obama will visit "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Thursday.

This will be the second big newsmaker interview in as many weeks for the CBS newsmagazine. Last week it scored a rare sit-down with Fed Chair Ben Bernanke.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

After stumping with Barack Obama in his home state of California, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger helps sell some of the president’s economic and energy initiatives Sunday morning.

Sunday evening, CBS’s “60 Minutes” airs a sit-down interview with the president himself — its second since he was elected last November.

Schwarzenegger, who called Obama “beautiful” Thursday, headlines NBC’s “Meet the Press,” along with Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose path to seek a third term was just cleared by the Justice Department.

Obama economic advisers stop by the other Sunday shows to try to explain again who in the administration knew what and when about the controversial AIG bonuses that have stirred so much public anger.

Christina Romer, chairwoman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, does double duty on CNN’s “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday.”

To counter her, CNN has booked Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), and Fox has Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.). And Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, also stops by Fox.

On CBS, Obama economic adviser Austan Goolsbee does “Face the Nation” with Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee — and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), whose suggestion that AIG executives might consider suicide topped the recent outrage over the bonuses.

ABC's "This Week," meanwhile, hosts Jared Bernstein, an economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.).

On C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) will be questioned by Susan Davis of The Wall Street Journal and Tory Newmyer of Roll Call.

Finally, on Bloomberg TV, host Al Hunt sits down on “Political Capital” with the Obama administration’s auto task force chief, Steve Rattner, to mull the future of Detroit’s Big Three automakers.

Terkel to appear on Olbermann tonight to talk about the O’Reilly harassment machine.

Tonight, ThinkProgress’s Amanda Terkel will be on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann to talk about her ambush by the Bill O’Reilly harassment machine. For four straight nights, “Olbermann awarded O’Reilly gold, silver and bronze as ‘Worst Person in the World’…for his insistence on speaking at the [Alexa] Foundation’s luncheon.” The show is pushed back tonight due to President Obama’s press conference, so she will be on at approximately 9:50 p.m. ET.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Two days after announcing his plan to refocus the war in Afghanistan, Barack Obama makes his first Sunday talk show appearance as president on CBS's "Face the Nation."

The president leads a blockbuster lineup from his administration that also features Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Other economic advisers have made the Sunday rounds in recent weeks. But this will be Geithner's first, with appearances on ABC's "This Week" and NBC's "Meet the Press."

He'll be ABC host George Stephanopoulos' sole headliner. But NBC's David Gregory also brings in Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to counter the treasury secretary on the economy and discuss the administration's new strategy in Afghanistan.

Gates will lay out the strategy on "Fox News Sunday," which also has Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Heritage Foundation President Edwin Feulner.

CNN, too, will take up the issue on its "State of the Union," with interviews with Army Gen. David Petraeus, head of the U.S. Central Command, and Richard Holbrooke, the administration’s special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The president's budget will also be mulled over by Senate and House budget committee chairmen - Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.) - and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

C-SPAN's "Newsmakers" focuses on the budget as well, bringing in the House Budget Committee's ranking Republican, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, to take questions from The Hill's Walter Alarkon and POLITICO's Patrick O'Connor.

Finally on Bloomberg TV, Al Hunt also hosts Ryan, as well as and White House Budget Director Peter Orszag, on "Political Capital."

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

A week after his predecessor was ousted by the Obama administration, new General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson will try to outline his company’s turnaround on this week’s Sunday talk shows.

Henderson headlines both NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “State of the Union.” Additionally, CNN interviews Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and former General Electric CEO Jack Welch — and has as its “Last Word” guest senior White House adviser David Axelrod.

After his debut on the Sunday shows last week, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is back, sitting down with host Bob Schieffer on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

And with the President Barack Obama still in Europe, Axelrod also appears on “Fox News Sunday” to discuss the weeklong presidential trip abroad and other pressing issues back home.

He’ll be countered by South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.).

Fox rounds out its morning with a roundtable of the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, National Public Radio’s Mara Liasson, National Review’s Rich Lowry and POLITICO’s Jim VandeHei. And Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), who privately fought breast cancer, is named “Player of the Week.”

On ABC's "This Week," Susan Rice, the new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, sits down with host George Stephanopoulos for her first Sunday show interview in her new post.

On Bloomberg TV, host Al Hunt interviews Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) on “Political Capital.”

Finally, C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” has Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson, who’ll be questioned by the Greenwire’s Robin Bravender and The Washington Post’s Juliet Eilperin.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Jordanian King Abdullah II lead a heavy foreign policy and national security lineup on this Sunday’s talk shows.

Ahmadinejad sits down with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.” And the king talks with David Gregory on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Gregory also interviews White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on the first 100 days of the Obama administration.

After a week of red-hot debate over the administration’s release of Bush administration memos on the use of extraordinary interrogation techniques, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a former Navy flier who was beaten as prisoner of war in Vietnam, discusses the latest controversy CBS’s “Face the Nation.” And so does Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), who supports creation of a so-called “truth committee” to investigate the allegations of torture.

Elsewhere, several other top White House aides also evaluate the administration’s first 100 days.

White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and chief photographer Pete Sousa sit down with John King on CNN’s “State of the Union,” as do Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

And Lawrence Summers, director of the White House National Economic Council, is on “Fox News Sunday,” along with Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Kit Bond (R-Mo), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

On Bloomberg TV, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel talks with host Al Hunt on “Political Capital.”

And on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” Michigan Rep. Peter Hoekstra, the ranking Republican on House Intelligence Committee, takes questions from Congressional Quarterly’s Tim Starks and The New York Times’ Scott Shane.

The debate over President Barack Obama’s pick of Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court dominates this Sunday’s television talk shows, as key members of the Senate Judiciary Committee run the morning circuit.

NBC’s “Meet the Press” has the committee’s top Democrat and Republican: Sens. Pat Leahy of Vermont and Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) are on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” while Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) stop by ABC’s “This Week.”

On “Fox News Sunday,” Sens. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will analyze Sotomayor’s nomination to replace retiring Justice David Souter, along with former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

CNN’s “State of the Union,” meanwhile, has Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), as well as Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas).

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Vice President Joe Biden makes his second Sunday show appearance since the Inauguration, this time on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Host David Gregory will interview Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Del., where he often weekends, on a host of pressing issues — from the ailing economy to health care reform to the elections in Iran.

Biden had appeared on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Jan. 25.

After Biden, the future of the GOP will be the talk at Gregory’s roundtable, with Republican strategist Mike Murphy and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough, the former Republican congressman from Florida who has written the new book “The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America’s Promise.”

Meanwhile, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the former governor of Kansas, makes the rounds on ABC’s “This Week” and CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss President Barack Obama’s health care plan that he’s been promoting on the road.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who ran unsuccessfully for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, also appears on ABC. And on CNN are Sens. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine).

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) are on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) stop by “Fox News Sunday,” which also has U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue. And Senate Whip Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) is interviewed on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers.”

Finally, on Bloomberg TV, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is Al Hunt’s guest on “Political Capital” to discuss his efforts to block the release of detainee abuse photos, the Middle East peace process and the administration’s proposals to tighten financial regulations.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

After a week of massive protests in Iran over its disputed elections, top foreign policy voices hit this Sunday’s talk show circuit.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahua joins former Sens. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.) and Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) to discuss the regional political fallout of the Iranian elections on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

No administration officials are on the Sunday shows. But Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), one of the President Barack Obama’s top critics on Iran, heads to CBS’s “Face the Nation” to sit down with host Bob Schieffer.

McCain will also be on "Fox News Sunday" for a special Father’s Day interview, along with Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.), Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s Karim Sadjadpour.

CNN’s “State of the Union” has Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dick Lugar (R-Ind.). And ABC’s “This Week” hosts Sens. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

Elsewhere, Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.) heads to C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” to answer questions on health care from The Hill’s managing editor, Bob Cusack, and Congressional Quarterly health care reporter Alex Wayne.

And Bloomberg’s Al Hunt lands House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) for an interview on “Political Capital.”

SJR -- what is the Sunday Fact Sheet? Is it something in your local paper? Or something accessible elsewhere?

Gotcha.

I googled it. I think maybe my question wasn't worded well (hey, I'm still working on my first pot of coffee and catching up on sleep deprivation from earlier this week!) I knew it was what you posted -- I was just curious where you saw the info.

I didn't know if this was something posted weekly on a website or something available in your local paper. I *think* I found where the info is posted so I'll have to try to check it from time to time.

Rachel Maddow will be on a Meet The Press panel this Sunday.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow will make her first appearance on "Meet the Press" Sunday when she joins the panel for a discussion on health care.
Maddow will join former House Majority Leader Rep. Dick Armey (R-TX), Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) for an in-depth look at the health care debate. Daschle now serves as an informal adviser to the White House, while Armey now runs FreedomWorks, which has been organizing protesters at the health care town halls.
"Joining me for a special hour Sunday on the health care debate is @maddow. I'mlooking foward to it," moderator David Gregory tweeted.
The invitation to "Meet the Press" is a big move for an MSNBC host — Joe Scarborough recently joined Gregory for a discussion on conservatism, but neither Keith Olbermann nor Chris Matthews has ever appeared on the show.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

The recent election in Afghanistan serves as a brief respite from the health care debate on this Sunday’s talk shows.

Adm. Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl Eikenberry will be on both NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CNN’s “State of the Union” to discuss any potential fallout from the election.

NBC also has Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), while CNN brings on Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.).

ABC’s “This Week” meanwhile hosts Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), one of the top foreign policy voices in his party, to provide his assessment of the situation in Afghanistan and evaluate the administration’s performance as it ramps up military involvement in the country.

Elsewhere, health care takes top billing.

CBS’s “Face the Nation” brings in two of the Senate’s top negotiators on health care, Republican Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and Democrat Kent Conrad of North Dakota, as well as former DNC Chairman Howard Dean. Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) head to "Fox News Sunday" where they’ll be joined by former White House faith-based initiative director Jim Towey.

C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” has Scott Armstrong, president and CEO of the Group Health Cooperative, to take questions on the proposed Democratic overhaul of health care from David Lightman of McClatchy Newspapers and Noam Levey of the Los Angeles Times.

Finally, Bloomberg’s “Political Capital” lands Education Secretary Arne Duncan. who has been making the media rounds recently to discuss the federal government’s plan to fight the H1N1 virus once schools start back up in the fall.
