Default TV Appearance Alert

Mr. D. has graciously agreed to sticky this post where we can keep each other apprised of interesting TV appearances that are coming up.

Hopefully this will provide us all a place where we can check in to see if there are any special appearances that we might otherwise miss.

I'll start with one that was mentioned in a different thread by SJR. Joy Behar will be substitute hosting for Larry King this Friday 11/14. The topic will be California Prop 8.

So...come one, come all. Share the TV schedule news of any special appearances you find of interest!

Thanks NL and Mr D. I think I'll skip on Sarah tonight though. I've had enough of her for now.

Bill Ayers w/be on GMA Fri the 14th!

In his first television interview since he became the center of controversy in the presidential race, Chicago activist Williams Ayers breaks his silence in an exclusive interview with Chris Cuomo on Friday's "Good Morning America."
Ayers, a leader of the '60s radical group the Weathermen, became a political lightning rod because of past associations with President-elect Obama.
In his first exclusive interview, Ayers talks about the reissue of his 2001 memoir, "Fugitive Days," and his journey from privileged youth to '60s radical.

Thanks for the great heads up Tootie!

i wanted to see William Ayers this morning on GMA but it isn't a show my DH normally watches. We turned to GMA about 8am but it appears we'd already missed it.

The Joy Behar appearance on Larry King was good. Well, the topic was interesting anyway. I liked the panelists and really enjoyed the segment with Cynthia Nixon. This format though doesn't seem to be Joy's element. She wasn't bad...just not great IMO.

She did announce that the Larry King interview with Sarah Palin would be rerun this weekend at midnight for anyone who missed it and wanted a chance to see it.

Default Jonestown Massacre

Thanks to a post by QVC Diva on another board - a reminder that this is the 30th Anniversary of the Jonestown Massacre.

CNN is going to be doing a special, Escape from Jonestown, tonight and tomorrow.

Congressman Leo Ryan was murdered while on the fact finding trip to this group. Per Wikipedia: The murder of Congresman Ryan was the only assassination of a Congressman in the line of duty in the history of the United States. [12]

That same day, over 900 of the remaining members of the Peoples Temple died in Jonestown and Georgetown. Among historic mass suicides, it is the largest such event in over 1,900 years.

MSNBC has also been airing and repeating a special report on Jonestown. I've seen both CNN's and MSNBC's. In fact, as I write this both channels have their editions of Jonestown on.

This Sunday there will be an interview with Barack Obama on 60 Minutes.

I'm a little confused as to exactly what it is. The promo footage I've seen on the commercials repeats the great interview that was on a few months ago. However, my online TV guide says the interview is new. The blurb says:

Tracing Barack Obama's journey from little-known candidate to rising superstar to president-elect, with interviews and news footage as well as previously unaired footage.

Just a little FYI for anyone interested -- particularly those who may have missed the original interview the first time.

Sunday, January 11

President-elect Barack Obama will map out his opening moves after the inauguration and discuss his recent appointments with host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.” And on “Fox News Sunday,” President George W. Bush and his father, former President George H.W. Bush, reflect together with host Chris Wallace on the past eight years and their unique father-son political relationship.

I also watched Obama and was bowled over by Newt Gingrich's comments on Obama and on the Middle East situation. Newt wasn't his old confrontational self.

Alert:
All week Chris Matthews will exam Bush's Legacy on Hardball.

As for Newt, I wonder if he's trying to rise again in his party. He hasn't been well pleased with the incumbents.

Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Joe Biden makes his vice presidential debut on this Sunday’s talk shows, along with another administration official, congressional leaders and New York politicos reacting to Gov. David Patterson’s surprise pick to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Senate.

Less than a week after getting sworn in as vice president, Biden headlines CBS’s “Face the Nation” to give his inside take on the new Obama administration’s transition to power.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), fresh off her first week working with the new administration, sits down with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.” And her Republican counterpart, House Minority Leader John A. Boehner of Ohio, makes his case on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where he’ll be joined by Barack Obama’s point man on the economy, Lawrence Summers, director of the National Economic Council.

Fox News Sunday,” meanwhile, snags Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), the vanquished Obama rival who has taken to praising him lately. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) also stops by to talk about the newly appointed New York senator, Democratic Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg takes up the Gillibrand pick on CNN’s “State of the Union,” where host John King also lands Rep Mike Pence (R-Ind.). And Bloomberg’s fellow New Yorker — Democratic House Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel — makes an appearance on Bloomberg TV’s “Political Capital.”

Finally C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” gets House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) to take questions from McClatchy’s David Lightman and The Washington Post’s Perry Bacon.

ABC gets first Blago interviews; 'GMA' and 'The View'

The rumors were true! ABC has nabbed Gov. Blagojevich for his first national television interviews since corruption allegations in November, according to a network spokesperson.

On Monday, Blagojevich will appear live on Good Morning America, skipping his impeachment trial that starts the same day. Following that, he will appear on "The View" with this wife, Patricia.

This should be fun to watch!

Five days after he was ousted from the Illinois governor's office, Rod Blagojevich will appear on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Tuesday.
CBS said Sunday that Blagojevich would appear on the New York-based late night talk show on Tuesday evening. It will be the former governor's first late-night interview since he was removed from office by a 59-0 vote of the Illinois Senate on Thursday.
Blagojevich faces federal corruption charges that include trying to auction off Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat. Federal prosecutors are expected to indict him by April.
A call Sunday to Blagojevich's publicist seeking comment was not immediately returned.

After pushing the $785 billion stimulus package through Congress, top Obama administration officials head to the Sunday talk shows to map out their next steps.

Senior adviser David Axelrod is on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and “Fox News Sunday” to sell the public the package that President Barack Obama is eager to sign early next week.

Google CEO Erick Schmidt and economist Mark Zandi of Moody's Economy.com round out Fox host Chris Wallace’s guest list. And NBC’s David Gregory lands for his political roundtable The Atlantic’s Ron Brownstein, The Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson, The Wall Street Journal’s Kimberly Strassel and Politico’s Roger Simon.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, meanwhile, appears on CNN’s “State of the Union” to square off against Obama’s former presidential rival, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

CBS’s “Face the Nation” also has Gibbs, along with House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby, the ranking Republican on the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.

And Bloomberg TV snags Obama’s top economic adviser, Lawrence Summers, for a weekend chat with host Al Hunt on “Political Capital.”

ABC’s “This Week” is without a Team Obama playmaker, but host George Stephanopoulos rounds up some of the sharpest tongues from the stimulus debate.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) faces off with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), with an undercard bout featuring Reps. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and Peter King (R-N.Y.).

Finally, Michigan Rep. Dave Camp, the ranking Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, is on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers,” where he’ll be questioned by The Hill’s Molly Hooper and Congressional Quarterly’s Joseph Schatz.

New president. New personalities. It's time for an all-new season of Real Time! HBO presents the Season Seven premiere of this acclaimed weekly series hosted by politically incorrect muse Bill Maher. Every live show features an opening monologue, "roundtable" discussions with Maher and a guest forum, segments with other special guests appearing in-studio or via satellite, special taped segments, and Maher's "New Rules" segment that exposes society's most absurd habits and institutions. As he's shown before, no subject or president (even the newly elected Barack Obama) is off-limits for Maher and his guests.
