So are the dogs.
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A Clark County woman needs your help to protect K-9 heroes serving our country. It started when Starline Nunley asked her son in Iraq if he needed anything. He told her he was fine, but the dogs working with them need help. "I don't think people realize dogs are there and how many and jobs they do," she said. Thousands of military dogs are working next to our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan: bomb sniffing dogs, therapy dogs, and search and rescue dogs. They sleep next to soldiers, train with them, and are a first line of defense in a danger zone. "When nobody else is with them, they're still with their best friend out there working," said Marra Wollpert of the Gem City Dog Club. The dogs desperately need cooling vests to work in the intense heat. They need doggles to protect their eyes from the blowing desert sand, and they need shoes because the pads on their feet are getting burnt. Nunley said soldiers are taking their socks off and wrapping them around dogs' feet then duct taping them to protect them. It costs $285 to outfit one dog with the equipment. If you'd like to help, the Gem City Dog Club has an account an Chase Bank. If you donate, specify that your donation is for the Gem City Dog Obedience Club. |

There's not a living being in that locale who's not suffering.
Not surprised that actual dogs are amongst em. |
