Education help wanted--what does this mean?

Does anyone know what it means when a school advertises an "anticipated opening"? Does it mean they think a teacher is leaving, or that they will have a job open if they can get funding, or what? Would this mean they collect apps, but delay interviews?

I'm thinking it means that someone is leaving--medical? retirement? personal?
Could go with the funding.

Funding is first guess. Very iffy for long-term employment.

My other guess is the same as Koi's about retirement or something else.

I'd go on and apply, just to get the interview experience, which is always a plus.

Perhaps it's related to enrollment estimates.
If enough students enroll they will need another teacher.

That could be, crowjane. I've applied--it's in my local dstrict and I have there years' experience there. I handed in my app on Monday and haven't heard from them, so I wondered if they were waiting for word from someone before they do interviews.

Hopeful but unsure. They don't have all their ducks in a row yet. Don't overlook another opportunity banking on this one.
